The Lost Abbey – Avant Gourde (2014)

12 Oct

AlexAA: dense, sequoia hued w/ initially frothy head that dissipates, aroma filled with bready malts, cinnamon & cloves 9/10

AlexTM: light grassiness & pumpkin are quickly overrun with cloves, cinnamon,& mace. Heavier malts sweeten as it warms. Intensely dry and bitter hop finish. 8/10

AlexP: The pumpkins are so bitterer and small that they might as well be green and still hooked on the vine. 3P

AlexO: Deep down there is a sweetish quality, but it is buried under those war-torn, grizzled layers of bitter and sage advice. 86/100

NicAA: Deep copper with huge fluffy, sticky head. Very fresh, meaty pumpkin aroma, backed up by sweet malt and a hint of ginger. 9/10

NicTM: Peppery, with grassy notes from the hops and a rustic, hay like quality from the malt. Tons of vegetal, very fresh pumpkin throughout. 8/10

NicP: There are pumpkins that are less pumpkin-y than this. 9p

NicO: A straight up and honest savory pumpkin, this doesn’t rely on fall spice to tart up the gourd. This is ALL about the PUMPKINNNN. With an aftertaste of balloons. Honestly. Like when you blow up a balloon then lick your lips. 88/100
