Mcauslan Brewing Inc – St. Ambroise Citrouille (Pumpkin) (2014)

15 Sep

AlexAA: burnished sequoia color with light cream colored lacing, gingered pumpkin and nutmeg to the nose 8/10

AlexTM: The caramel is no match to the aggressive cloves in this very light-bodied, dry ale, but it does make you bounce back and forth from malty sweetness to a harsh bittersweetness from the spicing. 6/10

AlexP: Only come thru in the taste once the beer warms up, but the beer itself works better colder. 4P

AlexO: Canadian Thanksgiving has to come earlier in the year w/ this ale as there’s just not enough pumpkin to go around, eh? 68/100

NicAA: Fairly dark ruby pour with rich, foamy head that fades quickly. Warm aroma of fresh pumpkin, cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg. 8/10

NicTM: Quite dry hops upfront which moves on to a stronger spice that the nose suggests. Cloves abound here, making it a little bitter in the finish. Nobody can accuse this beer of being overly sweet.

NicP: The pumpkin is present more as a tease in the aroma of this beer. It peeps out at the very end after clove leaves the party.

NicO: Another “not bad, not great”. Too much clove, other than that, fairly forgetta…HEY! Look! Shiny label!! It’s all shiny! 70/100
