Red Hook – Out of Your Gourd Pumpkin Porter (2013)

12 Oct

NicAA: Cola brew, light head. Classic porter aroma of toasted malt, a hint of chocolate. Tiniest hint of maple and spice. 8/10

NicTM: Smooth, medium body and carb. Maple more apparent here, cinnamon, glossy chocolate and roasty malt. 8/10

NicP: it’s a dark beer, and the best darker beers seem to have lighter pumpkin. Spot on here with that. Subtle but good. 4p

NicO: Pumpkin porter is a less common take, for me it really works as a style. Last year this surprised me. Still good. 85/100

AlexAA: almost pours like a root beer, lots of fizz and cola brown, light smokiness in the aroma like a campfire 7/10

AlexTM: toasty malt over a higher carbonation, maple syrup adds smoothness over a woodsy, cedar flavor and nutmeg smoke 7/10

AlexP: less than last year, but maybe that’s from it being bottled this year. Needs more pumpkin to balance earth tones. 2P

AlexO: too much pop for this porter, bland spicing takes something good down to fine. 70/100
