Samuel Adams – Fat Jack (2013)

11 Oct

NicAA: Effervescent amber with sticky head. Thick, sugary malt nose with gobs of gourd and only subtle spice. 8/10

NicTM: More smoky/savory than aroma, less bitter than last year. Subtle cinnamon plays well with this heavy malt/pumpkin. 8/10

NicP: Quite a lot of pumpkin going on here, but the smoked and caramel malts keep it in check. Ginger mellows it too. 6p

NicO: Fall warmer, but not sleep-inducing heavy. More balanced this yr, less bitter. Not the ace, but Jacks win hands. 80/100

AlexAA: dense mist of a brown sugar aroma with traces of both ginger and allspice waft from this deep rust-hued ale. 6/10

AlexTM: thick sweetness from a heavy malt covers the pumpkin, nutmeg & light ginger, dryness w/ light alcohol aftertaste 6/10

AlexP: Pumpkin peeps out after the malt fades, but it has a lot of competition before you taste it in the chewiness. 4P

AlexO: A Thanksgiving Pumpkin, this bready ale bridges gap into sweeter Christmas ales that warm & burn out sore throats 67/100
