Rock Art Brewery – Pumpkin Imperial Spruce Stout (2012)

28 Aug

NicAA:  Deep rich coal color with ½ inch head + great retention. The spruce tips are dominant in nose, complimenting the roasted malt. 7/10

NicTM: Thick mouthfeel, low carb. Roasted malt that goes through a little roasted pumpkin + licorice to a citrusy bitterness in finish. 8/10

NicP: The pumpkin here was designed to provide some sugar and sweetness in an otherwise piney and bitter stout. Subtle, but works.2 pumpkins

NicO: Original. If you want a pumpkin pie beer, this isn’t for you. Great to see brewers try something different and pull it off. 80/100

AlexAA: AA: deep brown with an orange glowing tint when held to the light, hoppy aroma w/ chocolate and espresso 7/10

AlexTM: piny bitterness and citrus coupled with roasted malt leaves a chalky trail, pumpkin adds the lightest bit of sweetness 7/10

AlexP: It’s a hard fight for pumpkin against the strength of the spruce tips, but it gives this stout welcome depth to the sharp hops 2/10

AlexO: Tho not my personal fave the change of pace 40+ beers in was exciting. But I’ll just say, the car freshener aftertaste lost me 70/100
