Red Hook Brewery – Backyard Series, Pumpkin Porter (2012)

28 Aug

NicAA: Deep red-brown with small mocha head. Smells of cloves, cinnamon, toasty malt, and a little sweet pumpkin. 8/10

NicTM: Sweet pumpkin + spices are there upfront, + complimented by malty sweetness. Coffee notes in finish. Medium body and low carb. 8/10

NicP: There’s more pumpkin in this than I expected, and it works. Good spice mix makes this pumpkin porter pop. 5 pumpkins

NicO: This took me by surprise. Balanced, smooth + tasty, with a good helping of sweet pumpkins. A couple more and I could be hooked. 88/100

AlexAA: Opaque, darkness to this porter w/ a scent of pure pumpkin – quite potent, too 9/10

AlexTM: creamy onset to a medium body w/ a light touch from the foam, cinnamon and nutmeg are used nicely to balance volume of pumpkin. 8/10

AlexP: to cut through a thicker beer, you need to up your pumpkin quota – red hook did, and it balances the amount of spice perfectly. 5/10

AlexO: What could’ve been too heavy a beer was kept silky with pumpkin and spice, without sacrificing the integrity of porter glory. 89/100
